Homegrown Learning Educational Topics

Time is one of the most influential principles and is seen in a variety of different ways when it comes to learning. Flexible planning, choice making, and daily explorations are paramount to higher-level thinking. We will not expect children to be interested in themes, concepts, activities, or ideas if they can not see, smell, taste, touch, or manipulate the materials. Our learning schedule will be supported by the classroom environment filled with open-ended and self-correcting materials to foster independence and intrinsic motivation. Mentors guide and expand on learning opportunities by supplying new materials, offering individual help to deepen the learning experience and meeting the child where they are at academically and emotionally.

LEARNING APPROACH

The following activities will be organized and led through collaborative play, centers, projects, 1:1 tutoring, and small/whole group learning. They will be designed to be age appropriate and meet the needs of the individual child. All areas will be taught using multisensory activities.

HOMEGROWN LEARNING TOPICS (include but not limited to)
Chicken tending, woodworking/building, hand sewing, cooking, gardening, social/emotional, breathing/meditation, History & Geography, Science, Art, Math and Language Arts. We will be using the Saxon Math Curriculum and the Science of Reading (SOR) strategies, lessons and activities for reading, writing, spelling and grammar.

● Assessments for Math & Language Arts for each child, to exemplify progress/growth, will be issued at the beginning, middle, and end of the learning year.
● 1:1 parent-mentor conference will be held at the beginning and end of the year. If a parent requests a mid-year conference, they need to schedule with the Director.
● If Mentors see concerns in developmental and educational progress/growth, we will address it to the parents. If at a level where we can’t provide the appropriate resources and/or help, families will be responsible for additional outside evaluation/help. We will support you in finding the appropriate resources. This will help us to learn how we can best support your child’s growth at Homegrown Learning.
